My Everyday Life

I have really enjoyed moving down South. I have already met a lot of people, and they are all so nice here. I know that sounds awkward in the fact, that most people are nice, but these people are out of their way, always in a good mood, Southernly nice. I feel like it has started to rub off on me a little. You don't have "bad" days at work because everything is laid back, on your own time, when you feel like getting around to it. You think I am kidding, but truly, it is. (Which is really frustrating when things close on Friday at 3:00 because everyone wants to go fishing) And if the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers lose over the weekend, you can sure has heck bet no one is in a hurry to do anything on Monday.

I work for Broussard Cataract and Eye Clinic and have absolutely loved being apart of their team. Dr. Broussard is a Louisiana native who has been practicing Opthamology for many many years. I am a technician of four and have already learned so much. Tuesday is our Cataract Surgery day, we tend to get done early, but have to be there at 6:30 am! I have learned to be a surgery tech and got to do my first full day alone doing eight surgeries! What do I do? Pretty much just stand there and give Dr. the "tools" he needs when he needs them and make sure I don't touch anything I shouldn't! It has been so much fun and I am so glad that I have am enjoying my work!

I have enjoyed many new things down here and gotten to do a lot of things I have never done before. Some are new and some are old, but here are some pictures of what I have been experiencing.

Watching the ULM Water Ski team

Parent's Weekend

I know I am a week behind and I plan on doing much better after I get this one posted. I will be up to date and start rolling on these things. Last weekend my parents were able to come down to Monroe and see what this place is all about. With them never being here, and us not here long, it was nice to get to view the town together. They got in Friday around 2:00 which worked out well because I get off early on Fridays. We started with a nice dinner on the Bayou at Cypress Inn for my dad's birthday.

When we were done eating, we drove around ULM campus and showed Dad and Mom the basketball gym and Keith's office. We took them to a volleyball game, not staying too long because the game didn't take to long, (not good for ULM). Throughout the weekend we were able to just relax and hang out. We watched lots of football and played a lot of cards!

Sunday we were able to drive around and see Monroe and West Monroe. There is lots to do and a lot of fun restaurants to go to. We tried out a couple, but can not wait for them to come back when we know more of where to take them.  One place, in my mom's favor, we did go to that Kansas has as well. She just didn't want to pass this up.

IHOP! Dad was very excited that he was able to order of the 55 and up menu!! They left Sunday night after a great weekend and returned home on Monday. I am so glad they were able to come and see where I live and enjoy such a nice weekend. Thank you guys! Miss you both!!

In other news, my sister Cindy and her husband Erin, as well as our entire families, welcomed Lawson Beck to the family.  I am so excited to get to go home and meet this tiny little baby! Congrats Cindy and Erin!!

Welcome to Monroe

Our trip to Monroe was just as exciting as we expected.  We started out and headed to Dallas, TX. I  stayed and hung out with some friends, while Keith went to recruit at a High School tournament that was in all the surrounding areas. We stayed there until Sunday, when Keith got done early. This led for us to get on the road early and were expecting to get back to Monroe around 8:00pm which was great considering Keith had his first day of practice at 6:00am and I had my first day of work at 8:00 and didn't know where I was going. We started driving and about halfway (two hours later) Keith blows a tire. We get off on the next exit, luckily it was right there, and pull over. It was almost dark by now and the jack of the car was broken.

At this point, it started raining and we knew nothing about the area we were in. Keith has AAA, so we called and an hour later, they arrived. The man quickly changed his tire and we were ready to go, or so we thought. When I went to start my car, it wouldn't start, it kept clicking so we knew it was a dead battery. We had to run down the AAA truck to turn around and help us start my car. We finially got it going, after we had stopped the traffic at this exit due to the AAA truck being in the middle of the road.

We then started going again with 170 miles to go, only being able to drive 50 mph. Yes, that is right, half the speed we had been! This lead to us driving for 4 1/2 more hours, completing the trip to Monroe at 12:20am and a 6 1/2 hour drive. We unloaded only the things that HAD to be used, and finished our trip. I am finally here in Monroe, and ready to continue the adventure! As for now, I have really enjoyed it and meeting all the nice people!!

VERY hard to see, but that is the Louisiana sign.
